North Facing Backyard Sun
My 2nd choice would be afternoon sun so backyard facing west.
North facing backyard sun. I know that s off topic but worth noting. We just bought a home in atlanta area with a north facing backyard. North or north east facing properties are considered the most desirable because they get the most direct sunlight through the day especially in winter when the sun is at its lowest. We get sun all day have lots of trees and more grass than we like to mow.
But i am constantly happily surprised by how even a supposedly north facing backyard can get sun as it passes over. That s why having a south facing garden is usually considered preferable to a north facing garden. I moved from a home with the front facing west. While the spaces along east facing and west facing walls receive at least a few hours of morning or afternoon sun the areas along north facing walls receive almost no direct sunlight.
I think it will be just fine. As you know the southern side will have the most sun. I live in a north facing home and i love the sun i get in my bedroom. In an urban area where sunlight is at a premium this can make a world of difference.
That is the worst. In winter not close up. Your lawn in your backyard will grow better with a north facing backyard too it needs winter sun to grow well. Our back deck is gets sun in different parts throughout the day in three seasons.
We have a north facing backyard and living areas i love it. We have a north facing backyard. The sun rises in the east and sets in the west so if you stand facing the end of the garden and the sun rises to your left and sets to your right you are facing south. A north facing home gets sun at the back of the house and is typically darker and naturally cooler than a south facing one.
There are tons of windows and sun porch in the back. Not in the dead of winter of course. North side and low sun isn t enough to melt the ice. My biggest issue is the kitchen windows facing west.
At its highest point the sun is directly south. We normally use the pool in the afternoon evening and as much as i hate the sun in my eyes i d rather it be sunny than in the shade all afternoon evening. North orientation is generally desirable in climates requiring winter heating because the position of the sun in the sky allows you to easily shade northern façades and the ground near them in summertime with simple horizontal devices such as eaves while allowing full sun penetration in winter. For gardeners in the northern hemisphere few spots are more challenging than the areas along north facing walls.
The sun is so bright in the afternoon evening that it can be blinding.
